Marysville, WA–Marysville Councilmember Mark James has formally announced his run for Washington State Representative, Legislative District 44.
“I am a man of faith, a husband, a father, a veteran and a committed, involved community leader. If elected, I will use my time, experience, and ability to help our community and Washington State as a whole, to increase its efficiency and maintain transparency. I will promote policies that will keep our state safe, clean, and vibrant.
As a local business owner for the past 15 years, I understand the hard work needed to be successful and how government can help or hinder those it is supposed to serve. My commitment is to make government work for the people and be more accessible.”
Mark James has lived in Snohomish County for nearly 30 years and is currently a City of Marysville Councilmember serving on the Economic Development Committee, Snohomish County Tomorrow Steering Committee, Alliance for Housing Affordability, Government Affairs Committee, Snohomish County Law & Justice Council and the Community Development Block Grant Committee. Additionally, Mark holds an appointed position on the Snohomish County Planning Commission spending considerable time on countywide land use policy issues. He also serves on the Puget Sound Regional Council Transportation Policy Board, a multi-county board intimately involved with growth and land use as it pertains to transportation.
Mark is a Veteran that served 7.5 years in the U.S. Army and has been a local business owner for over a decade. Prior to founding James Marketing, INC. (Hometown Values Savings Magazine), Mark worked locally as a Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist.
As an active volunteer, Mark dedicates time to various organizations including Marysville Sunrise Rotary, Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce, Cold Weather Homeless Shelter, Salvation Army, Marysville Community Food Bank and his local church.

Mark and his wife Renae have made Marysville home for the past 30 years where they raised their boys Jonathan, Matthew, and Joshua who all graduated from Marysville Getchell High School. These young men have taken up the family legacy by serving in Law Enforcement and Public Service careers. Mark enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, traveling and photography.
As a Councilmember, Mark has earned the Certificate of Municipal Leadership where he received credits in each of these four areas:
- Roles, responsibilities and legal requirements
- Public sector resource management
- Community planning and development
- Effective local leadership
He is now part of a team of local leaders, visionaries, and citizens who are passionate about making the right recommendations and decisions regarding issues that affect the larger community.
